There are two styles of lion dance, the Northern style and the Southern style. The latter is itself subdivided into different lion dance styles, such as Hok Shan and Fut Shan, both of which originate in Guangdong province. Hong Teck Lyon follows the Hok Shan style, with a lion that has a rather neutral face compared to the Fut Shan lion. This allows the Hok Shan lion to express a wider range of emotions.

The cult of the God of Fortune has a long history in China and is still popular in modern times. Its origins date back to the Han dynasty. Over time, his image and role evolved and he became uniquely associated with wealth and prosperity. The worship of the God of Wealth is an important part of Chinese New Year celebrations, as it is believed that praying to him will bring luck for the coming year.

Shīfu Siow Ho Phiew

Our Grandmaster

Hok San Lion Dance has a long history before it became recognized as it is today. After many generations, the art and craft of Hok San Lion Dance passed into the hands of Master Liu Xin Yao of the Sar Ping school. He had made Hok San Sar Ping widespread throughout the world. Master Liu went to Singapore to spread Hok San Sar Ping to Master He Qui Ching and finally, Hok San Sar Ping was passed on to Master Siew Kee Chan, "The Drum King World". Thanks to Master Lwok's recommendations, Master Siow Ho Phiew inherited the Lion Dance Hok Shan from Master Siew Kee Chan in Singapore. Hok San Sar Ping eventually reached Malaysia. And today, he has over 120 disciples and hundreds of students learning the art and craft of Hok Lion Dance under the Hok San Sar Ping school all over the world.

Master Siow is also a renowned manufacturer of lion dance heads. The details and vivid colors of each lion head he makes reveal his attention to the smallest detail, the preservation of good values and his sharp artistic skills. Each lion's head tells a story; to become a better human being takes discipline, effort and perseverance. In 1984 and 1986, he began researching how to make these costumes. He began his professional career in 1986, opening a store called Wan Sheng Han Dragon and Lion Arts Workshop.

Loyalty (忠)

Training a young generation devoted to their country, to their group, to the work of culture and art and to their master, trainer or trainer.

Wisdom (智)

Pinching the "green" is a spontaneous experience for lion dancers. Faced with a "Ching" difficulty or a challenge set up, you have to remain calm and reflect.

Justice (正)

We must never be influenced by outside elements. One must always concentrate and have an upright heart in order to be able to promote the true art of the Lion dance to the fullest extent.

Perseverance (毅)

Without it, no one will succeed. always be serious at work. Go all the way in your work. So we can succeed.

Eight golden words of Hong Teck

Honesty (誠)

We must be sincere when learning the lion dance so that the instructors are ready to teach us. Good performance must be properly coordinated.

Harmony (和)

All things need harmony. When we are with your masters, our instructors and your teammates, we must work together in peace.

Courage (勇)

Lion dancers need courage and boldness. There will be times when the dancers will have to perform movements with a high level of difficulty.

Courtesy (貌)

The holy man once said, don't say, see, listen or do anything if you have no manners. If everyone were humble, the world would become a nice place.
